Making It Easier to Watch—and Participate
I advocated for economical recording and livestreaming of school-board meetings and later pushed to restore two-way hybrid participation for Cupertino commissions and committees. At FHDA, I will work to enable remote public comment and make past recordings readily available.
I created informal opportunities such as Coffee with the Vice Mayor and Chats with the Mayor, along with community conversations, cultural events, volunteer appreciation, youth activities, and wellness initiatives.
I supported launching Via-Cupertino in 2019. The pilot grew into the Silicon Valley Hopper, connecting Cupertino and Santa Clara riders to neighborhoods, colleges, regional transit, healthcare, and shopping.
I supported Cupertino's Bird-Safe and Dark Sky Ordinance, adopted in 2021 to reduce bird collisions, light pollution, and unnecessary nighttime lighting.
I supported the Cupertino Library Expansion Project, adding approximately 5,600 square feet of flexible program space for study, presentations, programs, and community activities.
I advocated reducing the main project's scope while adding smaller satellite gardens in neighborhood parks. Better access does not always require a bigger project or a bigger budget.
I advocated for a careful pilot with designated hours and rules, followed by listening, adjustment, and expansion to additional parks when the approach worked.
I worked to inform more organizations about grant opportunities and supported published criteria, commission review, applicant questions, and transparent City Council consideration.
Listen to the community, ask tough questions, look for practical solutions, use public money carefully, pilot new ideas when appropriate, and follow through.
